A TV presenter from Sale, is supporting Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital’s ‘Onesie Day’ and will be visiting one lucky nursery to say thank you for their support.

Channel 5’s Milkshake! star, Olivia Birchenough, is encouraging everyone at nurseries to wear their onesie for the day as part of the charity fundraiser.

Onesie Day, which takes place on October 20, is open to nurseries, crèches or play groups and is a simple way to raise funds for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Children are asked to wears their Onesie or pyjamas for the day in return for a donation of £2.

Funds raised by the day will be used to support the use of 'Giggle Doctors' at the children’s hospital. Giggle Doctors create an environment of fun and laughter, providing a welcome distraction for young patients from anxiety or painful treatments.

Olivia said: “I’m so excited to be involved in this year’s Onesie Day. It’s great to have an excuse to spend the afternoon in my onesie – especially for such a good cause.

"When I last visited the children’s hospital I was able to meet with some of the Giggle Doctors and it’s easy to see why they are so loved by the patients - bringing lots of laughter and giggles to their bedside.

"Earlier this year I ran the Great Manchester Run for the hospital, so it’s great to be able to show my support again to a wonderful charity which I’m proud to support.”

Olivia will be surprising one of the nurseries on the day, by visiting in her onesie with the charity’s big green mascot – Humphrey Bear. The winning nursery will be picked at random, and will be treated to a VIP storytime session, with Olivia and Humphrey reading a selection of their favourite stories.

Angela Rowe, community fundraising manager for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity, added: “Our Onesie Day is a wonderfully simple way for our young supporters to raise money for our hospital, simply by donning their favourite onesie or pyjamas for the day.

"We’ve been holding this fundraising day for the past seven years, with hundreds of children taking part - each helping to raise valuable money to fund Giggle Doctors at our children’s hospital.

"I know that Olivia is very popular with young children, so I hope we get lots of nurseries joining in to help make a difference to poorly children when they need it the most.”
