ST MARTIN’S Church, Ashton-on-Mersey, is planning to revive a tradition by introducing postcards of the historic Church Lane church.

The Reverend Shaun Conlon, priest in charge, said: “We believe the earliest postcard dates back to the 1880s, and shows the church before the tower was added. However, there hasn’t been a postcard made since the 1950s.

"We are looking for a photographer or artist to capture our church, in a competition.”

“Last year we produced some simple black and white notelets which have sold well to both locals and visitors alike. As far as we know there’s never been a full colour postcard of the church and we’d like to rectify this omission.”

People are invited to send a photograph, painting or drawing of the church, containing no images of people, on A4 photo quality paper (matt or glossy) and marked with their name, address and telephone number to St Martin’s Rectory, 367 Glebelands Road, Sale.

Alternatively, they can email their entry to st.martinschurch@btconnect.com. The subject heading should be Postcard Competition Entry. Those entering the competition must abide by the full rules which are available from the church.

The winner will have their name credited on the postcard featuring their picture.
