BRITISH Shooting has just awarded Altrincham Target Sports Centre one of its bursaries.

The aim of the British Shooting scheme is to develop a network of clubs with the two fold ambition of growing the numbers of disabled people enjoying the sport and creating better links between the clubs themselves and the World Class Performance Programme.

The scheme provides a way of recognising the clubs, coaches and volunteers who make the sport accessible and to provide opportunities for people to participate at a level that meets their needs.

The hope is that this will enable disabled people and organisations to identify those clubs best able to cater for them.

Altrincham Target Sports Centre has been increasing efforts to involve disabled people in shooting and has been hosting acoustic air rifle sessions for the blind/visually impaired Manchester VI Bees group, as well as regular sessions for the Macclesfield Wheelies.

The club is in the process of applying for funding to obtain the acoustic air rifle equipment.

The club currently has around 180 members who are able to shoot the Olympic disciplines of 10 metre air rifle and air pistol as well as smallbore target rifle indoors at 25 yards.

If anyone would like to try their hand at shooting, Altrincham Target Sports Centre will be hosting two open days on Saturday June 11 and 12.
