POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a house was burgled in broad daylight while a 12-year-old girl was home alone.

At around 11am on March 22 police were called to a robbery at a home on Severn Close in Altrincham.

Two men, who are thought to be in their late teens, approached the house and knocked on the door before breaking into the home via a rear window. A 12-year-old girl was in the property at the time of the burglary.

Nothing was stolen at the time due to the victim making contact with a family member over the phone.

The men were described as white, around 18 years old, one was wearing a grey jumper and black trousers and the other was wearing a red coat.

PC Martin Hill from GMP’s Trafford Division said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspicious to get in touch with police as soon as possible.

“The 12-year-old girl is obviously very distressed, however thankfully she was unhurt.

“We are determined to find those responsible for this break-In, they have terrified a young girl who may never again feel confident alone in her own home, a place she should feel safest.

“We are aware that this is not an isolated incident and the Trafford South area has recently been the victim of a number of day time burglaries.

"We are treating these burglaries very seriously and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice, however we would like to remind people to be vigilant and make sure their doors and windows are locked at all times.

“Anyone with any information about any of the recent burglaries is asked to contact police as soon as possible. No matter how small the information, it could be vital to our investigation.”
