THE Rotary Club of Altrincham and Ladies Inner Wheel held a joint fund raising bash at the Cresta Court Hotel in Altrincham in aid of Canine Partners.

The event was attended by 75 people who sat down to a three course meal followed by a presentation from Malcolm Wells, the national speaker from Canine Partners, and Sandra Jackson, who is disabled, accompanied by Erwin the dog.

The event raised £750 for Canine Partners, a charity that provides and trains assistance dogs to transform the lives of people with disabilities.

Mr Wells gave details of how puppies are selected and trained.

The dogs' duties include opening and closing doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, getting their owner dressed and undressed, pressing buttons and switches, and raising the alarm in an emergency.

Sandra Jackson told how her dog, Erwin, has helped to give her a better quality of life and independence.

Canine Partners has partnered dogs with more than 340 people and hopes to reach 400 by the end of the year.
