THERE wasn't a soggy bottom in sight as pupils at a Hale Barns school the St. Ambrose College's Justice and Peace Society raised £700 for Macmillan Cancer Care with a great charity Bake Off.

More than 20 boys who are members of the St. Ambrose College's Justice and Peace Society baked hundreds of cakes, pastries and biscuits.

They were all devoured by friends, parents and relatives during an afternoon tea at the Catholic grammar school.

Hannan Sarwar, who is pictured front left, said: “We all think there should be a lot more to school life than passing exams and our group runs charity events throughout the calendar to support the community.”

His friend and fellow key organiser, Matthew Leigh, added: “Judging by the presentation and taste of the cakes we will have some contestants on the Bake Off pretty soon, especially as it now seems the show will have two formats on both the BBC and Channel 4.”

Justice and Peace Society organiser, teacher Laura McLoughlin, said: “The boys take full ownership of all their projects, devising planning and then delivering some fantastic events throughout the year.”

Fellow organiser and teacher Shelley McCrory added: “They are so good, they really need little supervision.”

St Ambrose would like to thank Hale Barns supermarket Booths for its donation of some fancy goods to make the afternoon extra special.
