THE husband and wife team behind a successful Stretford brow bar have voiced their support for a new UK-wide campaign to champion small businesses. Salman Hameed and wife, Masooma, launched Saniya’s brow bar - named after one of their daughters - at Stretford Mall in July 2009. The fact that the Stretford salon alone has issued more than 2,000 loyalty cards is testimony to its success. With four children, a home and three businesses to run, she admits: “Sometimes it is exhausting! But I’m very happy. I have plenty of clients who have been coming to me for the last four years and are very loyal.” Saniya’s is the type of small business which will be celebrated in the national campaign, Small Business Saturday, which takes place on December 7 - an initiative to support local shops. Labour MP for Stretford and Urmston, Kate Green, and Trafford Council are supporting the initiative. The council launched its support of the grass-roots campaign at Sale Life Centre with an event hosted by the South Manchester Branch of the Federation of Small Businesses Ms Green said: “People value the choice they get from smaller shops which is why I want to celebrate the contribution they make to local communities and why I’m so pleased we are having the inaugural Small Business Saturday.”
