A MAN has been arrested for attempted murder after a man was attacked with a machete in Altrincham.


Shortly before 7.55pm on November 12, police were called by the ambulance service to Lloyd Gardens, where paramedics were treating a man with multiple wounds.


When officers attended, they found a 23-year-old man had suffered a number of injuries to his arms and head, believed to have been caused by a machete.


The man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries and later released.
The machete was recovered by police nearby.


A 23-year-old man was arrested close to the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and has subsequently been bailed pending further inquiries.


Detective Sergeant, Carl Gilbert, based at Altrincham Police Station, said: "I can only imagine that people in the local area will be horrified when they hear the news someone has been attacked with a machete.


"I would like to try and reassure residents that not only is this kind of attack extremely rare, but we have a number of officers working on this investigation and a man has been arrested and bailed.


"I would like to ask for any witnesses that may have seen what happened, or saw people in the Lloyd Gardens area either shortly before or shortly after the attack on Tuesday evening, to get in touch.


"Our enquiries remain very much ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this incident and we are keen to hear from anyone that can assist us with our enquiries."
