THE Trafford Centre went back in time over the weekend when a chocolate company came to town to celebrate its new traditional toffee range.
Thorntons made camp in Central Peel Square on Sunday with a toffee smasher, allowing passersby the chance to win some of their Special Toffee by testing their strength on a Toffee Smasher.
The recreated funfair game with Victorian strongmen in the shopping centre had the added incentive of some smashed toffee as a prize.
The toffee was invented in 1925 – after 50 attempts to get it right – and for those who did not fancy flexing their muscles, there was still free toffee and fudge for those who came down.
