FREE mouth screenings are being offered to patients by a dentist surgery in Brooklands this month.
Maple Road Dental Practice is providing the check-ups as part of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month - a disease diagnosed in more than 7500 people this year.
Ian Hunt, the practice's clinical director, said that oral cancer is on the rise and could claim 60,000 lives in the next decade.
He added: " A short, simple mouth screening could save your life.”
Roy Brown, 60, credits a routine check-up for uncovering a cancerous ulcer - he is now back to good health after receiving radiotherapy and having the cancer removed.
The father-of-four from Sale said: "The disease is a silent killer, but the earlier mouth cancer can be detected and treated, the better the outcome.”
The public are invited to book a free mouth screening on 0161 973 0565 or via email at reception@mapledental.co.uk.
