ALMOST half a million pounds has been invested into Ashton-on-Mersey’s Co-op store as part of a major revamp.

The store, on Green Lane, has undergone complete ‘transformation’, with a focus on meal ideas, essentials and healthy, fresh foods.

The in-store bakery has been increased, and there is now extended ranges of fresh produce, ready meals and pizzas available at the state-of-the-art store.

Staff at the store are also receiving additional training to enable them to provide expert advice and to help inspire customers with meal ideas.

To celebrate the opening of the new store yesterday, Wednesday November 13, staff chose community hero, Cathy Davidson, from Friends of Ashton Village, who was treated to ‘star status’ for the day.

Cathy, who was representing the Friends group, which is being recognised for its work in arranging Christmas markets and Jubilee events, received a hamper packed with a host of products from the new store, including Champagne and vouchers to spend inside

She also cut the ribbon alongside store manager, Tina Williams, to officially open the new-look Co-Op.

Tina said: “I’m excited about welcoming customers into the new Ashton on Mersey store as local residents are passionate about food, and the new shopping experience has been tailored to really take this into account and provide our customers with everything they need to create inspirational and tasty meals.

“My dedicated and knowledgeable store team will be on hand to help them and make recommendations so it is easy for them to pick up delicious food conveniently.”
