A TIMPERLEY property-owner has expressed her disgust that green-belt land close to her home is being used as an un-authorised car park for users of Manchester Airport.

Virginia Castick, who currently rents out her Clay Lane property, said more than 200 cars are on the site at any one time and that the car park is used 24 hours a day, seven days a week – causing disturbance to her tenants who have two children.

Day by Day Parking, which has been operating the unofficial car park since June, does not currently have planning permission to change the use of the land, but has now applied to Trafford Council for temporary permission.

Ms Castick said: “We’ve heard that they have put in a retrospective application, they know how to work the system these people.

She added: “I am sickened by this creeping scourge of misuse of green land.”
A spokesman for Manchester Airport Group (MAG) stated that Day by Day and MAG are not linked.

“The security of our passengers and their belongings is of upmost importance to us at Manchester Airport, which is why we always recommend booking one of our eight secure, official car parks.

“With a product to suit every traveller’s need and budget, we always recommend booking direct on our website, online in advance, to ensure availability, security and the best price.”

A spokesman for Trafford Council said: “The council can confirm that it has received an application from an operator to change the use of vacant land at Clay Lane to airport car parking, for a temporary period of three years.

“Local residents will have the opportunity to comment on the application as part of the planning application process.”
