BROOKLANDS

Brooklands Lacrosse Club has been given a financial helping hand by house builder Persimmon Homes North West.

The club has received £1,000 through Persimmon’s ‘Community Champions’ scheme.

The year-long initiative aims to support local groups and charities with a pot of £24,000 of match-funding available. Organisations can apply via www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.

In July next year, 10 members of the Brooklands Lacrosse u19s team will join the England squad to play in the World Cup in Vancouver.

Brooklands club secretary Alison Cara said: “It is a real honour for our members to have the opportunity to be selected to play for their national team, but the trip involves a lot of personal expense, estimated at around £5,000 per player.

“It is fantastic news that we have been selected by Persimmon Homes to receive the funding and we are incredibly grateful. The money will certainly help the boys to achieve their dreams next year.”

Dave Hodgson, Persimmon Homes north west sales director, said: “Brooklands Lacrosse Club is making great strides in making lacrosse hugely accessible to men, women and children of all abilities. We are thrilled to help some their talented U19s in their bid to play for World Cup glory in what will hopefully, one day, become an Olympic sport.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000. For more information visit www.persimmonhomes.com
