FILM producer and former veteran Pete Carruthers has developed with the support of Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW) surrounding post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in veterans, how it affects loved ones and the road to recovery.

A screening of the film ‘unload’ will take place in Salford Arts Theatre this week followed by a Q+A session with the film producer himself along with key people in organisations dedicated to mental health and services for veterans.

The film was developed to help maximise awareness and understanding of PTSD, promote the challenges that comes along with the illness and to help break the stigma surrounding PTSD. The film outlines the specific specialist psychological therapy that veterans can receive to help overcome PTSD.

The film also aims to show that although the majority of veterans return from war with no mental health problems and are able to transition well to civilian life there are some veterans who need that extra support to adapt and cope with getting back to day to day living.

The short film tells a story of Eddie, a British Army Veteran who suffers with PTSD, and his journey towards recovery through psychological therapy. The film focuses on varying aspects including the importance of support from family, friends and colleagues and the specific challenges associated with providing therapy to veterans.
