A GROUP of year 10 pupils from Flixton Girls School (FGS) took part in an event at The University of Manchester to introduce them to the world of higher education.
The Manchester Gateways Exploration Visit welcomed pupils from the city to take part in a series of higher education awareness and academic enrichment activities.
With the aim of inspiring the students to consider how higher education can help them, these activities included workshops, lectures and question and answer sessions, as well as a tour of the facilities and one to ones with existing students.
Student Abigail Kyriacou said of the visit: “It was really interesting to get insights from the students at the University. I feel like I have a much clearer view of what higher education can offer me now.”
Irene Bates, work experience and KS5 transition co-ordinator at FGS said “On top of providing a top-class education, our ethos at FGS is to empower our girls to make informed decisions as they go through life, helping them to achieve their potential. This visit to the University of Manchester encapsulates that ethos; it informed them, engaged with them and gave them invaluable insights into how their own futures can look. We are really grateful for the opportunity.”
