ALTRINCHAM and Bowdon Civic Society members will be showcasing their work this month during the first ever national Civic Day.

The society’s members will be manning stalls on Shaw’s Road leading up to Altrincham Market, from 9am until 3pm on June 25.

There will be displays on the group’s achievements - such as the saving of Altrincham Town Hall and Shaw's Green - along with the ongoing tree planting in Altrincham town centre.

Planning applications will also be on show of developments which the society is trying to influence - St Anne's Home, Station Buildings, the new Altrincham interchange and the long-awaited new Altrincham General Hospital.

As part of the society's grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, there will be samples of Victorian maps and large scale plans of Altrincham to explore, as well as an overview of the projects being undertaken.

Judie Collins, chairman of Altrincham and Bowdon Civic Society, said, “We hope as many people as possible will come along and meet us at our displays on Civic Day. We want to really celebrate the things of which Altrincham can be proud, but also to listen to your ideas on how the town could be made better."

Civic Day has been organised by Civic Voice, the national charity for the civic movement in England.
