AN Altrincham mum-of-three is set to open the doors to a traditional toy shop in the town centre in time for Christmas.

Work is currently underway to get the shop ready in the former Oddbins premises at 74 Stamford New Road.

The town's latest independent retailer, Village Toy Company, will stock a range of quality wooden, traditional and educational toys for children from birth upwards.

The emphasis will be on quality toys that offer value-for-money across a range of prices from stocking fillers right up to dolls houses and ride-on classic cars. Owner, Lisa McCarthy, said: “Some of the toys I will be stocking have been firm favourites at home, they have been played with by my three children over the years and are still going strong.

“My two eldest children have had great fun helping choose toys for the shop, even my seven-year-old who loves his Nintendo 3DS said I have to sell marbles!”

The shop is inspired by traditional and vintage toys and Lisa expects that parents and grandparents alike will find something that reminds them of their own childhood toys and games on the shelves.

“We are all nostalgic about the toys we played with as children and there is a real appeal in passing that onto our children and grandchildren.

“I hope we become a real destination toy shop that brings something different to the town centre and attracts visitors from beyond Altrincham.”
