TISSUE maker SCA has welcomed its largest ever intake of new apprentices to its Trafford Park site.

Ten new starters have joined its apprenticeship scheme at the same time, taking the number of apprentices to 25 out a total workforce of 169 at the Trafford Park Road mill.

The mill is the home of premium household brands Cushelle toilet tissue and Plenty kitchen towel, as well as manufacturing ‘own brand’ products for leading supermarket chains.

“This record intake reflects the growing needs of the business,” explained SCA operations director Jim Lang, himself a former apprentice at the site.

“We recruit to retain and we are confident these young people will see their careers with SCA flourish in the years to come.”

SCA is a leading global hygiene and forest products company with paper mills in Lancashire, Derbyshire, Northumberland and North Wales.

The new intake at the mill is made up of one welding, two electrical, three mechanical and four process engineering apprentices.
