THE emergency services came to the rescue of a man after his car crashed on Barton Bridge and ended up on fire and hanging over the edge.
The 20-year-old was trapped in the Mercedes car after it crashed over the edge of Barton Bridge, with a 100 ft drop to the Manchester Ship Canal, on the M60 between junctions nine and 10, at 2.10am on Sunday.
Police officers who were first on the scene pulled the man clear and he was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary. He was treated for cuts to the back of his head but his injuries were not serious.
Firefighters from Stretford, Sale, Eccles and Ashton-under-Lyne attended and used used winches to pull the car clear.
