HALE motorists are being warned not to leave valuables on display after a spate of thefts in the area.

Between Sunday October 2 and Tuesday October 4, five vehicles were broken into in the Sandileigh Avenue area.

Sat navs, hand held gaming consoles and sunglasses - worth a combined total of £1,120 - were taken.

Officers have increased patrols in the areas and are offering crime prevention advice to motorists but they are urging vehicle owners to play their part and help reduce these figures further.

In Altrincham, since April 1, there has been a 16 per cent reduction in vehicle crime, with a drop of 38 incidents.

Inspector Clark Bowers, from the Altrincham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said it was important people didn’t make it easy for thieves.

“All cash, valuables, identification and vehicle documents should be removed from display when you leave your vehicle.

“Lock all windows and doors and try to park in a clear, well-lit area that is visible to other people and not obscured by trees or shrubs,” he said.

Report any suspicious activity to 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
