STRETFORD firefighters gave infant school pupils the ‘time of their lives’ after rescuing one of their classmates.

The fire crew were called to Moss Park Infant School at 1.40pm on September 14, after four-year-old Hafsa Hussain became trapped in the reception class.

Hasna, who was only in her second week at the Moss Park Road school, had managed to wedge her arm between the whiteboard and a horizontal pipe leaving her trapped.

She tried to wriggle free but managed to twist her arm further and when frantic staff were unable to help her they called the fire brigade to get her released.

Headteacher Frances Farnorth said it was a ‘ freaky fluke’ accident.

“It was the kind of thing that she couldn’t have done if she had tried.

“When the firemen came they were absolutely fantastic, they had freed her in less than 20 seconds,” she said.

After rescuing Hasna - who was soon cheered up with a visit from her mum and a lollipop - the firefighters invited the other 60 reception children into the playground to see the engine.

Ms Farnorth said: “The firemen were just brilliant. All of the children were given a go on the hose and they loved it.

“The playground was absolutely soaked but they had the time of their lives and it turned into a really really happy afternoon.”
