AN URMSTON mum is baking a giant cupcake to help raise money for Finn’s Fund.

Marie McGrath, 35, decided to commemorate the first anniversary of her cake business and National Cupcake Week with a charity raffle to help six-year-old Finn Middleton.

The mum-of-two is selling £1 raffle tickets on justgiving.com/mariemcgrath for the chance to win a voucher for a giant cupcake that is 25 times bigger than an ordinary bun.

All money raised will go to Finn’s Fund, which is hoping to raise £100,000.

Finn, a St Monica’s Primary School pupil, from Western Road in Flixton, was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive and rare form of cancer called metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma in January.

He is currently undergoing chemotherapy but as there is no cure for rhabdomyosarcoma, his parents Jo and Paul are determined to raise enough money for a year’s research into the disease.

The total raised so far stands at around £30,000.

Marie, a part-time teacher at Davyhulme Primary School, appealed to people to support Finn’s Fund.

“It’s so important. It’s such a rare cancer so people need to do as much as they can to try and find a cure,” she said.

Marie set up a cake business from her home just over a year ago and has seen it go from strength to strength.

She is in the process of launching a website for the business and changing its name from Marie’s Creative Cakes to Marie’s Bakehouse.
