A NEW scheme aimed at rewarding positive behaviour and improving the school's image in the community, has been launched by Lostock Community College.

The initiative, which has been running since July, gives pupils the chance to be entered into a fortnightly draw to win a prize donated by companies from across the Lostock and Urmston area.

Students are scored on an array of criteria ranging from time keeping to performance in lessons and uniform.

Victoria Acton, a literacy teacher at the school, whose idea it was to launch the scheme, said: "There used to be a lot of time and effort spent on the pupils who were misbehaving but now we are trying to reward the good behaviour.

"It's really gone down well. It's still early days but I would hope we will be able to see an academic improvement as well.

"We are trying to build up links with the community and build a more positive image of the school. I've found the local companies have been really great, donating vouchers and other things."

Companies already donating gifts include Manchester United and Manchester City football clubs, La Piazza Italian Restaurant on Lostock Road, Pond Quay Chinese Restaurant on Croftsbank Road and the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club but the college are still looking for other contributors.

Any company that would like to help can contact the school on 0161 864 5700.
