TRAFFORD youngsters are riding high this week as many of the borough's teenagers celebrate top notch GCSE results with some of the best grades ever.

Altrincham Grammar school for Girls celebrated with 99 per cent of the pupils gaining five or more subjects at grades A* to C and 60 per cent at A* or A grade placing the Cavendish Road school squarely at the top of Trafford league and 23rd nationally.

Almost 95 per cent of Stretford Grammar school pupils achieved five A* to C grades with the average number of A* to C passes for boys at Altrincham Grammar being 8.4 ranking them 104 nationally.

Staff and pupils at Ashton-on-Mersey school saw their best ever results with almost 40 per cent of pupils achieving the government's benchmark of five A* to C grades and top candidate Sharon Butterworth romping home with nine grade A's and an A*.

And staff and pupils at St Ambrose College in Hale Barns also had something to smile about as this year's results smashed all previous records at the Wicker Lane school placing them 98th in national league tables.

Broadoak High school in Partington has triumphed over a negative OFSTED report by scoring its best ever set of GCSE results.

More than a fifth of pupils - 22.3 per cent - gained five or more A to C passes - the school's previous best was 19 per cent.

And New Wellington school also recorded outstanding results with 41 per cent achieving five or more subjects at A* to C.
