I CANNOT understand the opposition of B.M. Newhall (Readers' Write, August 20) and others to the proposed ice rink development in Altrincham town centre.
How many other towns can boast of such an attraction? What better way to answer the cry of young people in our town that there is 'nothing to do'? And what better site for it than adjacent to the bus, railway and Metro station?
It would be a wonderful attraction for the town and just what is needed to boost Altrincham's appeal in the face of the pretentious Trafford Centre!
Those who claim it will attract hooligans are talking rubbish. You could say the same about any cinema, football ground or pub - but properly designed as part of a superb and long awaited Altrincham development it would bring nothing but benefits to the town.
Come on Trafford, stop dithering, get one of these plans approved and let's see some action.
Clive Alford, Altrincham.
