WE write to oppose the views expressed by Jane Grant regarding planned changes at Brooklands Sports Club.

The new sports facility at Brooklands will probably be more likely to be joined by local people - for who wants to get stuck in the traffic jams to travel to the new sports and leisure development near the new Trafford Centre at Trafford Park?

Local people will be able to walk or ride bicycles - the more health and fitness concious ones, that is - to the new facility at Brooklands.

Furthermore, out of the target membership of 2,500 and the existing 800 members, how many are likely to turn up all at once? During the peak periods quoted by Jane Grant as being between 7pm and 9.30pm, there is no rush hour traffic, no school traffic and certainly no nursery children around.

She also talks of the 'destruction of our environment'. At least the proposed development will allow Brooklands Sports Club to remain viable for the forseeable future and she will be able to look out over a green area - of which there is precious little remaining in the heavily built-up residential area of Brooklands.

Without this development, Brooklands Sports Club will cease to exist altogether in a few years and then what would be the outlook for Jane Grant? More housing development bringing with it new roads and cars to destroy the environment?
