Chasing the local side's total of 162 Hyde stood at 142 for 7 with 5 overs remaining by the 8th wicket pair finally saw them to victory with 10 balls left.

Clive Bolton bowled throughout the Hyde innings and had the distinction of taking the first 6 wickets, five of them bowled, but it was unfortunately not to be a match winning performance despite his final impressive figures of 6 for 53.

Sale's innings again demonstrated their batting fragility although four batsmen did reach 20 on this occasion and the tail did wag rather more than normal.

The improbable opening partnership of Paul Battersby and Bolton again gave Sale a sound start with 42 off 15 overs but a mid order collapse from 83 for 2 to 103 for 6 looked ominous for the home side.

He eventually fell for 40 off 43 balls just before Sale's innings ended on 162 in the 50th over.

Hyde's innings was dominated by a fine knock of 73 from John Buckley

The visitors fought back well and secured victory with 29 from Butterworth.
