A TIMPERLEY family has been helping to strengthen Anglo-African links by backing a foreign exchange visit.

South Trafford College student Caroline Smith and her family played host to a 20-year-old Namibian at their Cholmondeley Avenue home.

Calvigo Classen was one of a group of eight young people and two leaders who spent a month in the area as the second phase of an exchange, attending a youth pilgrimage to Walsingham and visiting churches and cathedrals as well as theme parks.

Caroline's mum Marilyn says: "Calvigo settled in very well - he said the first thing he noticed about Britain was how green it was. The exchange has been successful for both sets of young people, they had a wonderful time."

Calvigo, who is a fisherman for lobsters and crayfish in his home town of Luderitz, has been impressed by the opportunities available to young people, adds Mrs Smith.

The first part involved Caroline and nine other young people spending three weeks in Namibia last summer.
