A SALE man is about to achieve his lifelong ambition of sailing round the world on a yacht - two years after he thought the chance had gone forever

Brian Lux thought his dream voyage was over when the 'Grand Sailing Tour' on which he had been promised a place was cancelled.

But now the 66-year-old has been accepted as a crew member on a yacht in the 'Clipper '98' round-the-world race.

He left home this week for final training for the race, which starts in Plymouth on October 17. Brian will be taking part in two of the stages - the fourth stage which will see boats race from Hong Kong to the Seychelles via Singapore and the sixth and final leg from Brazil back to Plymouth.

And Brian - who had his colon removed in 1993 and now has to wear a colostomy bag - says he can't wait to get under way

He will find out which yacht he will be sailing on this month and told SAM: "I though this chance had passed me by - now I just want to prove myself before I slide into retirement."
