MR and Mrs F Ryan's letter (SUM, June 3), gave me the best laugh I've had for a long time. Fancy wanting to return horse droppings to the owner of the animal responsible for the crime of leaving them there.

Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. When I was a young girl, people would rush out to gather up droppings from passing horses to put on their roses. The resulting blooms were beautiful. With today's emphasis on organic gardening, F Ryan would occupy his time more constructively by using the free manure on his garden than by writing petty letters.

To all you horse owners out there, you are welcome to ride down our road at any time. And if your lovely horses leave any presents, we will gladly dispose of them for you and have lovelier gardens for the effort. Ignore sour pusses like F Ryan - you can't improve on nature.
