URMSTON Hockey Club travelled to the Isle of Man to compete in the International Festival.

Seven of the touring squad were included in the England team managed by Derek Milne and which played in the annual fixture against the Celts.

In the game which saw England dominant for long spells the result was a 1-1 draw.

Steve Ray was man of the match with Sale colleage Martin D'Cruse who had an outstanding game as sweeper.

Ian Entwistle made a number of timely tackles and supplied the attack with many fine passes against a lively opposition.

Russell Bibby, Ray Adamson and Sale man Savio Martiness played excellent wing attack roles.

Colin Le Maitre made a string of excellent saves in goal.

In the festival club games Urmston won three games 5-2, 2-0 and 4-2 and participated in three high score draws 5-5, 4-4 and 3-3.

The remaining five games were lost.

Scores were super vet Harry Greenlady with five goals including a first ever hatrick in 45 years of field hockey, Matt Harris with four goals, Steve Ray, Russell Bibby and Martin Richardson with two each.

Paul Rutherford, Simon Fullelove, Andy Thorley, Ian Entwistle, James Dugdale and Terry Dixon also got on the scoresheet with a goal each.

Mike Lockett made some fine saves in his first time in goal.

Simon Davis, Moiria Mayer, Mandy Alsobrook, Estelle Milne, Adrian Green, Richard Ray, Bob Arnold, Steve Cutts, James Salisbury all contributed to an excellent weekend's hockey.
