A SMALL shop is getting the chance to prove a sandwich it created is simply the best in Britain.

For a tasty treat dreamed up by the delicatessen in Sale Moor has won through to the UK final of a European competition.

The snack - dubbed 'Lancashire Delight' by workers at Cottage Delicatessen, Northenden Road, is one of five to make it through to the final of the Delifrance European Sandwich Challenge.

Competition organisers decided they just had to taste a sandwich containing black pudding, Lancashire cheese, English mustard, tomato and red onion when the description was sent to them.

Now shop owner Nick Monks has been invited to make it for a panel of judges in London, on Monday - and could then be heading for the European final in Paris.

Shop worker Kelly Chebby told SAM: "We've tasted the sandwich and it's very nice - if you're a black pudding lover."
