HELP the Aged's Altrincham shop manager and two pals are gearing up for their 'longest day' - a 24-hour sponsored walk.

Howard Newhall and friends Mark Bailey and Malcolm Nye will be striding out to raise funds for Help the Aged.

The intrepid trio are confident they will be able to cope without sleep and complete the all day trek setting off from Bollington at 10pm on June 19 and following a section of the Cheshire Ring canal system.

They reckon they will have reached Northwich when they end the walk at 10pm the following day.

The walk has been arranged to support Help the Aged's national 'Longest Day' event to celebrate elderly people's lives. Volunteers and staff from Help the

Aged will be joining them along sections of the walk.

Howard joked: "The main thing will be not to fall in the canal at night - but I'm sure we will keep one another awake."

To sponsor the effort, call in at the Help the Aged shop on Regent Road, Altrincham, or call 929-6308.
