A POPULAR hospital for sick animals in Trafford has just been given a massive face-lift as the Millennium draws ever closer.

Now the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) veterinary centre on Warwick Road South in Old Trafford is fully open again after the quarter million pound refurbishment.

The hospital is one of the busiest in the country and treats over 42,000 sick and injured pets every year for free - and the new improved centre will be better able to cope with the ever increasing demand.

With more and more people owning pets and the ongoing developments in veterinary technology the charity decided to upgrade the centre despite being solely funded by donations.

The improvements mainly focus on the operating theatres, x-ray facilities and animal recovery and kennel areas to cope with the number of patients needing in-patient care.

Waiting room and disabled facilities have also been improved.

Senior veterinary officer, David Brookfield said: "The improvements are going to really benefit our clients and patients as we now have more space and equipment to work with.

"Demand for our service is never-ending, highlighting the need in this area for a pet hospital, and with these refurbishments we can offer the best possible service to people who often have nowhere else to go when their pet becomes ill or injured."
