Trafford 1

TRAFFORD Football Club's mini-revival came to an abrupt end on Saturday when they were beaten 3-1 by a classy Matlock Town side in Derbyshire.

Matlock mounted early pressure on the visitor's goal but the best chance fell to Trafford striker Tom Murray who lobbed the ball over the crossbar when clean through.

In the 9th minute Matlock took the lead when a through ball by Flynn split the Trafford defence and Will Davies strode forward to unleash a tremendous drive into the top left hand corner of the goal.

Four minutes later Davies struck again when a near post cross was flicked on and he had the simplest of tasks in sidefooting home, giving Trafford a mountain to climb if they were to get anything from the game.

The home side continued to dominate with some superb football and left back Farley shot just over the crossbar from 20 yards.

In the 40th minute Davies had a great chance to complete his hat-trick when he shot over from just six yards and Trafford came in the break 2-0 in arrears and with it all to do!

Within two minutes of the restart, the game was put out of sight for the Shawe View men when Tilly crossed to the far post and Askey arrived to head in from close range.

Trafford then had a brief spell of dominanc and Lee WIlliams blasted wide, Garry Vaughan curled a shot inches over and Dave Lowe sent a piledriver inches wide of the post.

At the other end a brilliant move by Matlock ended with Burton breaking clear down the middle and smashing a shot against the woodwork with keeper Jim O'Donnell helpless.

With time running out, Trafford mounted another spirited attack and Lee Williams was brought down just inside the penalty area allowing skipper Vaughan to step forward and plant his spot kick just inside the post giving a final score of 3-1.

On Saturday, Trafford are on their travels once again when they visit the Horsfall Stadium to play Bradford Park Avenue, KO 3pm and then on Tuesday they entertain local rivals Ashton United at Shawe View, KO 7.30pm.
