Urmston Amateur Swimming Club

MEMBERS of Urmston Swimming Club have again shone in the Manchester & District Age Group Championships, being far and away the most successful club in the area after the first two galas.

Last Saturday in the 16/17 Age Group Adam Bolton was first in the 400m Freestyle (new record time) with David Whittle in second place, Laura Basson won the 200m Breaststroke and Becki Bolton was first in both the 200m Freestyle and 50 Freestyle (new record).

15 year old Matthew Jones was third in the 100m Backstroke while in the 14 age group Jon-Paul Woodcock won the 100m Backstroke with a silver medal in the 400m Freestyle and bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.

Kelly Smith was first in the 200m Breaststroke and second in the 100m Butterfly.

Also in the latter event were Emily Rimmer (4th), Louise Dyer (5th) and Emma Boothby (6th).

Christopher Perkins won the bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke while Alicia Mather and Louise Dyer were fifth and sixth respectively in the 200m Freestyle.

Coming to the 13 year age group, Harriet Ellis won gold in the 100m Backstroke with Corrie Finn in fourth place, Corrie was second in the 200m Freestyle and fourth in the 100m Breaststroke, Matthew Casey was third in the 400m Freestyle and fourth in the 200m Breaststroke with Sarah Massey in sixth place in that event and fifth in the 200m Breaststroke, Matthew Casey was third in the 400m Freestyle and fourth in the 200m Breaststroke.

In the 12 year group Natalie Basson was in first place in the 100m Backstroke and the 200m Freestyle with Melanie Whittle in fifth place in that event.

In the 100m Butterfly Daniel Cordingley was in first place and Adam Dyer fifth.

Daniel also won gold in the 400m Freestyle with Charles O'Neill in sixth place in that event.

11 year old Hannah Perkins won the 100m Backstroke with Zara Heron in second place while Stephanie Harris was the gold medalist in the 11 year 200m Freestyle with Zara in third place in that event.

matthew Griffiths was second in the 100m Breaststroke.

In their first year of opening swimming at ten years old, James Shaw was the winner of the 4x1 Individual Medley with Thomas Cheetham in third place.

On the previous weekend James Shaw won the 10 year old 50m Backstroke in the Central Lancashire Age Groups.
