TWO reluctant heroes disappeared after saving the life of a girl suffering from a serious asthma attack.

Jessica Haslam, 12, of Thurlestone Drive, Davyhulme, fell ill after going to a shop near her house with her sister, Alex, last Saturday evening.

When she arrived at the shop, she felt her chest tighten and she knew she was about to have an asthma attack. She had gone out without her inhaler, so she started to run back home to get it.

On the way back, she realised that the attack was very serious and she was not going to make it all the way home. Jessica, from Lostock High School, said: "I was staggering around and shouting for help. The two men saw I was in trouble and they asked me if I wanted any help."

One of the men realised she was having an asthma attack. Jessica pointed towards her house and they took it in turns to carry her home.

With the help of one of Jessica's neighbours, they managed to get her back. Her concerned parents, Pamela and Stuart, rushed to get her to the hospital, and the two men had gone before they had chance to thank them.

Stuart said: "When she got back, her lips and face were going blue. There's no way she would have got back on her own."

Pamela said: "We are all so grateful to these young men. If it wasn't for them, Jessica definitely wouldn't be with us today.

"They probably don't realise that they saved her life. People are so quick to criticise young men these days, but these two should be proud of themselves."

Jessica made a quick recovery after her near-death experience, but she then had another rush to get home that night. Pamela said: "Once she had been treated at hospital, the only thing she was worried about was getting home in time to watch Casualty!"

Jessica said: "I'm really glad they came to help me. I'll always keep my inhaler with me from now on!"
