A PRIZED green haven in the centre of Trafford is being ruined by litter louts.

Reader Alan Davenport reckons parts of Trafford Water Park are becoming a 'health hazard'.

Alan told the Grotspots campaign that wooded areas on the north side of the lake, near the launch platform for ski-boats, are being used as dumping grounds.

Litter bins around the lake are overflowing because they are not emptied often enough - and vandals then torch the rubbish.

Alan, of Dane Road, Sale says: "It is expected that a certain amount of rubbish will be deposited around the lake due to the number of visitors to the water park, and facilities of litter bins have been supplied. But they rarely seem to be emptied except when magpies and foxes have foraged for food.

"There is also the problem of vandals who have set fire to the litter bin contents.

"A part remedy would be for the bins to be emptied on a regular basis - once a week would not be asking too much and this would make it a healthier and far more pleasant place to be."

Geoff Marsh, the council's principal environmental services manager, says: "This is the council's land and and we will address the issues raised and clean up where necessary."

Litter problems can be reported to the council on 912 3604. People can also contact Trafford Direct 2000 on 912 2000.
