CAN I say how much I agree with your correspondent "Very Angry" regarding dog mess.

We have the same in Timperley.

Walking along the road one has to be as agile as a ballet dancer to dodge the disgusting piles of filth everywhere.

It is not confined to the path and the road, however, as grass verges are also liberally decorated with the mess dogs leave behind.

Recently I even reported to the staff at a Baguley supermarket (which was dealt with very quickly) that some dog lover's pet had been allowed to perform right amongst the shopping trolleys and the mess was subsequently spread about by the trolley wheels.

Why take a dog to a food store when quite rightly it won't be allowed into the shop?

We have all recently shared the collective cost of having dog waste bins fitted in our parks and playing fields.

Are they used? Not a chance, the objectional heaps continue to desecrate our open land.

I have seen as many as twenty-seven dogs at a time in the morning in Pickering park, taken there with one intention, and did all these owners clear up after?

Again, not a chance.

Smiths field on Sylvan Avenue, regularly used football pitches for games and training by children of all ages, is often soiled with the same filth.

The number of times I have seen football officials and parents attempting to beg a bucket of hot soapy water to clean up the players as best possible before they go home.

In SAM recently I read that a couple of owners had been fined for allowing their dogs to foul the pavements and I did hope that this may have been the start of a campaign to help clean up our streets and parks spoiled by these inconsiderate owners, but everything seems to have been put on the back burner again.

An effort is made in Trafford to stick warning signs on lamp posts regarding dog fouling and the resultant fine but many are quickly torn off by whom, I wonder?

The danger of health if this is allowed to go unchecked is incalculable.

I realise the difficulty in catching these people but surely a concentrated programme would achieve some results.
