A LITTER-strewn spot in Altrincham has been a Grotspot for half a century, claims a reader.

A Timperley resident is demanding action to spruce up the footbridge area at Altrincham railway station.

The long-suffering reader says it is a filthy mess on both sides of the railway line at the former level crossing.

"In summer this rubbish is somewhat hidden by the undergrowth, but usually it is very obvious, as it is now.

"To my knowledge this Grotspot been like this for some fifty years!"

Geoff Marsh, the council's principal environmental services manager, said he was aware of the problem: "A lot of the rubbish is on rail company land. We will clear up the council areas and get in touch with the appropriate rail company about the other areas."

Litter problems can be reported to the council on 912 3604, or 912 5924 for the Altrincham area. People can also contact Trafford Direct 2000 on 912 2000, which provides information and help on a range of council services.

We want our readers to continue to let us know about problem areas - please WRITE to Grotspots, Sale and Altrincham Messenger, Brindley House, Ashton Lane, Sale M33 6TP; or FAX us on 908 3403. Please ensure you give precise and detailed locations.
