PELICAN FC maintained pole position in the Altrincham Saturday League with a comfortable victory over sixth placed Sale Amateurs.
However, it took a penalty to get them off the mark as Steve Bennett was upended in the box and Rick 'Mossy' Mesquita's cool spot kick made it 1-0 in the 22nd minute.
However, on the stroke of half time Pelican scored again.
Once more Mesquita did the damage, gaining possession in midfield before striding forward and firing a twenty yarder over the Sale keeper to make it 2-0.
The second half was only four minutes old when a free kick from Pelican stalwart centre back Hutton put the Sale defence under pressure and midfielder Brian Baxter put the Timperley side 3-0 up.
The fourth and final goal was just reward for the hard working Nicky Plant who fired home from close range.
