Urmston Amateur Swimming Club

URMSTON Swimming Club was the top club after the final gala of the Manchester & District Age Group Championships at Broughton on Saturday.

The ten, eleven, and twelve year olds each won their trophy with the girls first and boys second in the overall competition.

In the ten year age group James Shaw won two medals on the 50m Breaststroke and Butterfly, Siobhan Gurrie won silver on the 50m Butterfly with fourth place in the Breaststroke.

At eleven years Paul Ellard won gold in the 200m Individual Medley (IM) and was second in the 200m Freestyle which was won by Paul Matthews.

In addition to this, Paul was chosen to swim for Lancashire

Stephenie Harris was first in the girls 200m IM and third in the 100m Freestyle.

There were nine medals for Urmston in the twelve years with two new records.

Daniel Cordingley won the 200m Freestyle in a new record time, also winning the 200m IM and gaining second place in the 100m Backstroke where the other record was broken by Daniel Fearnehough, also taking second place in the IM.

Kaktherine Barker was first inthe 100m Freestyle, second in the 200m IM and fifth in the 100m Butterfly.

Natalie Basson won the girls' IM with second place in the 100m Freestyle.

Other placings were for Colette Shaw in the 100m Freestyle and 200m IM, Lucy MacCallum in the 100m Freestyle and for Charles O'Neill (200 m Freestyle) and Adam Dyer (200m IM).

Five godl medals were gained in the thirteen year age group, three for Allan Woods in the 200m IM, 100m Backstroke and the 200m Freestyle.

Harriet Ellis broke the existing record winning the 100m Butterfly also taking gold in the 400m Individual Medley.

Matthew Casey was fourth, fifth and sixth in his three events while Corrie Finn was fourth in the 100m Freestyle.

Kelly Smith, in the fourteen year age group, was first in the 100m Breaststroke and second in the 200m IM.

Jon-Paul Woodcock was third in the 200m Freestyle and fourth in the 200m IM and the 100m Breaststroke.

Laura Basson won both the 200m and 400m individual medley, Adam Bolton was first in the 200m freestyle and second in the 50m freestyle and David Whittle was third in both the 50m and 200m freestyle.
