Trafford 2

Farsley Celtic 2

A GOAL by Chris Patterson ensured Trafford took a point from their first clash of the new season.

The visitors started the brighter of the two sides and within minutes of the start Elliott's thirty yard dipping volley just cleared the bar.

Moments later Trafford player/manager Mark Molyneaux had to be alert to punch the ball off the head of Perrin.

The game was a lively affair as both sides attempted to stamp their authority.

Somewhat against the run of play and with their first real attack of the match Trafford took the lead.

Debutant midfielder Leon Diaczuk kept the ball in play and swept it towards to edge of the penalty area.

Celtic keeper Sutcliffe could only strike his clearance against the advancing Darren Emmett, who regained his footing and calmly slotted the ball into the empty net.

As the half progressed Farlsey came close to equalising as the dangerous Reagan saw his chipped shot deflect off Molyneaux for a corner.

The visitors levelled the game on 38 minutes when Shields' shot was helped home at close range by Whellans.

Farlsley started the second half as they had left off with Reagan once again proving the main threat.

To their credit Trafford stuck to their task and almost regained the lead when Emmett's 35 yard piledriver was well saved.

This stirred the visitors into action once again, with efforts from Reagan and Elliot just off target.

In the 58th minute they were rewarded with a goal of sheer class, when Whellans got his second of the game, as he eluded the close attentions of three defenders to chip the ball home from just outside thepenalty area.

The Shawe View men though were not to be denied and were level within three minutes as Emmett found the unmarked Chris Patterson who slotted the ball under Sutcliffe.

As the game drew to a close Farlsey once again dominated affairs but at the final whistle both sides seemed happy with a share of the points.
