A PLOT of land in Sale is an overgrown eyesore - because leisure chiefs can't find any gardeners who want allotments there.

The weed covered land at Warslow Drive was earmarked for allotments.

But since building work was completed on housing in the area in the mid 1990s nothing has been done to improve the land, complains a fed up householder.

The resident, who moved to the area a couple of years ago, told Grotspots: "Before we bought our house we wanted and received assurances that this land would be cultivated and so enhance our environment.

"But nothing has been done to this plot except twice yearly spraying to keep the weeds down.

"It is an area the size of a cricket pitch and it could and should be landscaped for the benefit of everyone in this locality."

Geoff Marsh, the council's head of environmental services, told SAM: "This is potentially one of the best allotment sites in Trafford. But we can't get anyone to use it, mainly because nearly all the houses around there have gardens.

"But we are looking at what we can do with the land. We are talking with the Sale and District Horticultural Society to see if we can get it used for allotments.

"And we will carry out a consultation in the area to see what residents want us to do with it."

Another reader complains that Navigation Road in Altrincham urgently needs a clean up. Geoff says: "There is a lot of activity in this area and we will have a look at it and get it cleaned up. We will see if we can increase the frequency of cleaning there."
