FOLLOWING Lorraine Shaw's record breaking start to the season in the hammer, two other athletes from Sale Harriers Manchester have caught the sporting headlines.
In an all-star international meeting at Loughborough Rebecca White cleared an incredible 12.84 metres in the triple jump, and Philippa Roles threw a massive 58.98 metres in the discus before hurling the shot 14.96 metres.
All three girls will be in the Sale team representing Great Britain in the European Cup at Madrid this weekend, taking on Russia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Greece, all of whom normally field their national teams.
The Harrier squad has been weakened with the withdrawl of Diane Modahl (800 metres), with Glandular fever, Amanda Parkinson (5000 metres), with chest infection, and Julie Crane (Triple Jump) recovering from a knee operation.
With Keri Maddox doubtful, Sale can expect a tough mission, but will certainly return better for the experience.
On the domestic front the women have got off to a great start with the B team winning the National North of England First Division match, followed by victories in the under 20s National league and the McDonalds U17s Premier League.
