Altrincham Boys GS

THE heavy rain during the week led to the home games being cancelled but two teams travelled to Cowley HS at St Helens.

The U15s, suffering from injuries and late cryoffs, had to borrow players from the U14s whose game had been cancelled.

Not the most auspicious of starts and they had difficulty against a side they had beaten comfortably in previous seasons.

Runs were hard to come by and when the opening pair were dismissed within five overs with only single figures on the board, a steadying hand was called for.

That came in the shape of Nick Johnson, who managed to bat into double figures despite getting a nasty ball in the throat.

With the remaining eight batsmen only able to muster six runs between them, the AGS innings closed on 31.

Cowley's opening pair were relatively untroubled by the bowling and comfortably reached the required target within eight overs.

The U12s won the toss, put Cowley into bat and were rewarded with a wicket with just the second ball.

Tight bowling and sharp fielding the had Cowley on the ropes at 13 for 8 after 12 overs.

Some slightly more lenient bowling enabled Cowley a flurry of runs before they were bowled out for 32.

Andrew Shakespeare bagged a hat-trick, whilst Andrew Capel, Jack Entwistle and Chris Davies each took two wickets.

In reply AGS tweaked their batting order and immediately lost wickets!

However Jonathan Pearson (11) and Andrew Caspel (9 n.o.) brought a semblance of order back to the innings and with the help of some rather generous extras AGS won comfortably with 10 overs to spare.
