Yet Another National Title for Manchester Basketball

LAST weekend brought an end to an amazing season for Manchester Youth Basketball Club, when the U15 boys team won the National title, to make it three National Championship Trophies for the club.

An easy semi-final win against Brighton 89-32, meant that the players were fresh to play the final game against Haringey, from London.

The game was held at the Trafford Basketball Centre in front of a capacity crowd and proved to be a magnificent contest between the two best teams in the country.

Four points was the biggest gap between the teams until the last minute of the game, when Flixton's international, Callum Jones, took charge and scored the key baskets which meant his team won by 76-52.

The Manchester boys had become the first to beat Haringey in two seasons.

Further good news for the club came when Alan Metcalfe was selected as English Cadet (U16) Player of the Year.

Alan received his award at the British Basketball League Senior Finals at Wembley Arena, after a season in which he has starred for the England Cadet team in Croatia.

Although the Manchester Youth Basketball Club has been in existence for only 4 years, it has built a formidable Senior team in the Manchester Magic, which is making great strides to rival the famous Manchester Giants and all its other National League teams have made a big impact on the sport.

So much so that 16 of its players are now members of National squads in their age-group.

On Saturday, more than 120 young players had attended the National Leagues Trials and showed their skills, showing the reputation the club has already gained.
