URMSTON Hockey club acquitted themselves well in two end of season encounters with the county side Lancashire.

A combined first and second team played the Lancashire U17s and but for some excellent goalkeeping from Jeff Smith could have been three down early on.

Urmston however then got on top and following the first goal - a cracker from junior Andy Graham - never looked back with other goals from Matt Harris (2) and Steve Ray. Captain Ian Entwistle, Stuart Higginbottom and Bradley Parker made significant midfield contributions.

The U13 were dominated by Lancashire for most of the first half but came back at the end of the half to score twice, a typical individual solo run and reverse flick from Andy Power and a goal from Richard Clarke.

Chris Brumwell, Jonathon Dutton, brothers Peter and Kris Wood and Andrew Hagan played well in midfield whilst the defence of goalkeeper Scott Bailey, Lyndon Hessing, James Bay, and Stuart Bates marshalled by Robin Cooper held up well.

Urmston were the better team after the break but the four goals from Lancashire in the first half were too much to overcome and second half goals from Ian Lowe and Andy Power couldn't prevent a final score of 6-4 to Lancashire.
