A DERELICT pub in Flixton could soon be demolished. The former Brunel's Bar, off Flixton Road, was gutted in a fire three years ago and has been left boarded up ever since. Trafford council's Urmston area manager, Rebecca Nugent, said she had been in constant contact with the pub's last owners, brewers Scottish and Newcastle, to find out when the building would be knocked down.

She said: "They have been arguing about whose responsibility it was, but they now say they hope to demolish the building in the near future."

Scottish and Newcastle Retail spokesperson Tanya Wilson said: "We are in discussions with Railtrack at the moment regarding the timing and most appropriate manner to conduct the demolition in order to meet health and safety regulations."

One annoyed Flixton resident, Wendy Micklewright, said the building was a terrible sight for people arriving at Flixton train station. She asked: "When will Trafford Council force the owners to repair or demolish this eyesore?"

Other residents have complained that the building has been left in an unsafe condition after the fire, with children playing inside the premises and putting themselves at risk.
