STAFF and pupils at Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School in Davyhulme are gearing themselves up for a much-needed face-lift at the school.

For work begins this weekend on a new block at the Davyhulme Road site to provide new facilities including two classrooms and an assembly hall.

And it will prove to be a massive boost for the school according to its delighted governors.

Local councillor and school governor, Cllr Bill Clarke tells SUM: "This is very exciting news for all connected with the school as we have been trying to get this scheme off the ground for a number of years.

"The headteacher Mary Culliney and all the governors, both past and present, have worked extremely hard to achieve this result and we have had excellent support from Trafford's LEA."

The work will see the replacement of temporary buildings that have been on site for a number of years and has been boosted by a Government grant in excess of £500,000 approved by the Department for Education and Employment.

And although it will be ongoing over several weeks, Cllr Clarke is confident that the work will prove a valuable addition.

He adds: "Although the building work may cause some slight disruption, I am sure we will have the full support of all parents.

"In addition to the new building work the existing classrooms will be refurbished and when completed it will provide a first class environment for the children and staff."
